Here, at Happy Adventures, we enjoy learning and sharing information. In this article, we will be discussing Hermes, the "Messenger of the Gods" who is from the Greek Mythos. We can learn so many valuable lessons from myths which can be incorporated in daily life.

Who's Hermes?

Before we knew Hermes as the messenger of Mount Olympus, he was known as a robust, rustic, agrarian spirit, governing over the fertility of women and livestock. Hermes is among the most beloved characters of all Olympian Gods and Goddesses. He presides over animal husbandry, language, communication, and travel (which we at Happy Adventures are all about).

Hermes is also known to be a trickster. He is a spirit of luck and patron of gamblers, especially for those who play dice. He is associated with the gift of gab and business success. He is very cunning and witty. Hermes teaches us the importance to have a little humor in our lives. He can be annoying for those who lack humor and humility.

Hermes' Story

"Hermes was born in a cave to the goddess, Maia. Zeus is his father. He makes his home in Mekone, "Poppy town." His consort may be the Greek-born Italian goddess Carmenta. He is credited with many inventions, including the musical scale, the alphabet, boxing, gymnastics, weights, measures, and olive culture (Athena may have brought the olive tree, but Hermes taught people how to process the fruit and oil). Lessons We Can Learn From Hermes

Hermes is one of the greatest examples of duality.

“Better to live in fellowship with the deathless gods, continually rich, wealthy, and enjoying stores of grain, than to sit always in a gloomy cave.  And as regards honor, if Zeus will not give it to me, I will seek to be a prince of robbers. And if Apollo shall seek me out, I think another and a greater loss will befall him. Hermes is displayed in both a "good" and "bad" light. We are neither all good nor all evil, but an equivalent measure of both. It is our choices and free will, that the balance between good and evil can be tilted in one direction or another.

Find that balance within. Transcend duality. Once you have inner peace, you will ultimately live in true harmony.

Rosh Hashanah is a Jewish Holiday that begins at sundown this week on Wednesday, September 20, 2017. Happy Adventures enjoys learning and sharing information. In this article, we are going to share the significance of this holiday.

Rosh Hashanah, also known as Yom Teruah (Day of Shofar Blowing), means “Head of the Year.” Just like the head controls the body, our actions on Rosh Hashanah have a huge impact on the rest of the year. It is a day of prayer and meditation, a time to ask the Almighty to grant us a year of peace, prosperity, and blessing.

The central observance of Rosh Hashanah is the sounding of the shofar, the ram’s horn, on both days of the holiday (except if the first day is Shabbat, in which case we blow the shofar only on the second day).

The blowing of the shofar symbolizes the trumpet blast that is sounded at a king’s coronation. Its cry also serves as a call to repentance (which means to stop missing the mark). 

What are your plans for the new year? It is never too early to set an action plan for your goals. It is also a great time to reflect on the lessons you learned in 2017 so 2018 can be the year for growth and development. It is time to answer our calling. The time to do it is NOW!

Cold weather is fast approaching. Icy roads, slushy sidewalks, and brisk winds may sound great for some folks. For those that need a break from the brisk weather, switch your snow boots for flip flops instead and visit beautiful Florida. 

Here are some reasons to visit the Sunshine State:

1. The Weather--Bonita Springs, FL is said to be one of the sunniest places in Florida. Per OnlyInYourState.com, Bonita Springs has an average of 271 predominately sunny days per year. That is a lot of sunny days to do many exciting things.
2. The Parks--There are 164 state parks and 10 state trails in the U.S. state of Florida which encompass more than 800,000 acres, providing recreational opportunities for both residents and tourists. One of Happy Adventures TRVL favorite parks to visit is Winding Waters, in West Palm Beach, FL Winding Waters is a 548-acre natural area which contains mesic flatwoods, hydric hammock, depression marsh, wet prairie, and dome swamp.  Several areas were cleared for agricultural purposes and have been restored to shallow-water and deep-water marshes.  Birdlife is abundant with bald eagles, anhingas, green herons, belted kingfishers, wood storks, roseate spoonbills, and loggerhead shrikes making appearances.  You can also go kayaking and canoeing there. It is a great place to enjoy nature's beauty.
3. Last But Not Least, The BEACHES--Since Florida is a peninsula, there are beaches everywhere.Some beaches have grand attractions like the Miami Beaches and there are some that have many historical sites like St. Augustine. One of our favorite beaches is Fort Lauderdale.  Fort Lauderdale has 23 miles of sunny beaches. There are awesome restaurants, fun activities, and hotels in walking distance. It is a gorgeous place and we encourage you to check it out.
